My 2010 Favorites

This past year has been quite the year. I’ve been through so many changes both personally and professionally. I started the year pregnant and working a corporate job in marketing not knowing quite what I wanted for my future. Now moving into 2011 I find myself in such a different place. I’m a proud momma to a beautiful baby boy and instead of working in the corporate sector I am following my passion for photography and running my own business. Change is the word I cling to when I think of 2010. Change is a good thing though at times it can be tough, uncertain, and uncomfortable. Change gives us the opportunity to grow, to gain perspective, and to try something new. This is where I found myself in 2010 -and I like it. Yes it is kind of scary starting your own business but I’m happy to have this opportunity.

Below are my favorite pictures from my 2010 formal & informal photo shoots. (I decided to keep my favorite Eli photo shoots separate for another post -so stay tuned for those pics too.) It was really fun to look back at all my pictures from 2010. I also want to say a HUGE thank you to all my clients & friends for giving me the opportunity to take your photos and share in your special memories. You are my inspiration so thanks! It was so hard to choose a few favorites from the shoots. But below is my best attempt. Which ones are your favorites?

This is a pic I took at sunset in Malibu when our friends Kevin & Drew came to visit. I love the warmth of the sunset and how it reflects on their faces.

These photos were taken while my good friends Lauren & Jon were visiting us. It was so windy and chilly but we had a lot of fun checking out SoCal. I love the first pic-it was a candid shot & I adore how Jon is pulling Lauren in close with the sea breeze in her hair. I miss those two!

I’m including this shoot although it’s a pic of me. My friend Kel had emailed me a pregnant belly shot as inspiration and so I had James try & replicate a similar look. I loved it! James did an amazing job and I was a happy client ;-) I was also incredibly huge- hard to believe I was pregnant this time last year.

These next 3 photos were taken from the Chusid’s wedding. It was really fun! The first pic is one of my favorites. Aaron and Alex both loved to sing and to calm themselves down before the ceremony they would sing to each other. They were truly made for each other and I was so happy to be a part of their day. The other two pics were from the reception- I loved the energy and dancing it was so much fun! To see their full post click here.

These next shots were also big time favorites of mine. The Fudges were expecting their first child and it was my first official maternity session. I loved it! We did the shoot up at Griffith Park and again I was digging the sunshine and the view is always stunning. The Fudges were awesome to photograph check out the full post here for more pics.

These next couple of shots are some of James’ that I love. Our friends Jacky & Jason came to spend a day with us in Hollywood. We had a blast checking out the walk of fame and then we headed out to Griffith Observatory to view the whole city from above. It was a great day and James took some great photos for us to remember it.

This next shoot was my first newborn shoot I had ever done. I had a great time and it was a wonderful first experience. Below is baby Emery. Isn’t she beautiful? Not only did she put up with me & my camera but she even let me arrange her in baskets and things. It was really fun. The bottom two shots were done in a style completely new to me. I borrowed some black curtains from the Fudges and tried to control the light to achieve a studio effect. I was really happy with the results and for a first attempt at this kind of shot I was thrilled. Emery also did a spectacular job at staying asleep for the little endeavor. Isn’t she precious? And that’s it as far as non-Eli photo shoots this year. Whew- that was a busy year! Besides revisiting fun memories from the various shoots, I loved getting to visually see my own growth and style develop as a photographer. If you are a photographer or a photo hobbyist I would highly recommend doing a year in review of your photos- you may be surprised with yourself.
